Glyph is a vocabulary app. This page explains, in plain words, what the app collects, why, who helps us handle it, and how you can see or delete it. Short version: we collect what the app needs to keep your cards and progress, plus crash reports to fix bugs. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps.

Who we are

Glyph is made by Manuel Lombardero Botey, an individual based in the Netherlands, who is the "controller" of your data under the GDPR. Address: Van Woustraat 138, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Contact: support@play-glyph.app.

What we collect

What Why
Your e-mail address, if you add one To log you in with a one-time code, and to answer you if you write to us.
The name you give when the temple asks To greet you and show on your profile.
Your learning data: the languages you learn, the cards you collect, your practice answers and schedule, your streak and rewards This is the app itself: it's how Glyph knows which words to show you, and when.
Messages you send in the app's chat with the developer, and the replies To read them, improve Glyph, and reply to you in the chat.
Your e-mail (and iPhone or Android), if you ask for the beta link or Android news on this website To send you the link or tell you when Glyph is on Android, and once more when it's in the app stores. Nothing else.
Usage events: when you finish a practice round, and in which language To see whether people come back to practise, which is what this beta is testing.
Crash reports: what went wrong, the app version, your device model and system version, and your account ID (never your e-mail or name) To find and fix bugs.
Technical logs: IP address and time of requests, kept by our providers To keep the service secure and running.

We do not collect your location, contacts, photos or advertising identifier. Daily reminders are scheduled on your phone; we don't receive anything for them.

Guest accounts

You can use Glyph as a guest, without an e-mail. Your progress is then linked to a random account ID stored on your phone. If you delete the app or log out before adding an e-mail, we can't recover that account. Guest accounts that haven't been used for 3 months may be deleted. If you add an e-mail that already has a Glyph account, the guest's cards move into that account and the guest account is deleted.

Legal basis

We process your account and learning data because it's needed to provide the app you asked for (performance of a contract). Crash reports, usage events and technical logs are based on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and understanding whether it's useful; they're kept minimal and never used for advertising. You can object to them by writing to us.

Who helps us

These companies process data on our behalf, under data-processing agreements:

Some of these providers may process data outside the EU. Where they do, transfers are covered by the EU's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

How long we keep it

Your account and learning data are kept for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, it is deleted straight away from our database; our database provider's backups may keep a copy for up to 7 days. Crash reports are kept by Sentry for up to 90 days.

Deleting your account

In the app: Profile › Settings › Delete account. This removes your account, cards, progress and usage events. You can also e-mail support@play-glyph.app and we'll do it for you.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to receive it in a portable format, or to stop processing it. Write to support@play-glyph.app; we answer within a month. If you're not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Children

Glyph is not meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
